This is the best SEO and keyword research tool on the market today. Ahrefs handles everything you need to prepare blog posts and build your blog’s SEO foundation

How Ahrefs helps you:

  • Keyword research
  • Competitor analysis
  • Backlinking
  • Content gap analysis
  • Website audit
  • Rank tracking
  • Exploring website

Ahrefs has been crawling the web and collecting data for ten years. The Ahrefs bot is ranked first among all web crawler tools.

Ahrefs also offers a free Webmaster tool to perform basic website audits and analyze ranking patterns and site performance weekly. If you don’t want to commit to the paid tool, start with the free Webmaster tool and test its deliverability yourself.

It’s the best tool for building backlinks, and when it comes to traffic estimation, it most closely correlates with Google Search Console.

Pricing: The paid Ahrefs plan starts from $129 per month. It’s ideal for small businesses or bloggers working for small brands. The price goes up with their other plans. The standard plan costs $249 monthly, and the advance is $449 monthly. You can get a customized plan, which is ideal for big enterprises and agencies, starting at $14,990 on an annual contract basis.

Semrush

While Ahrefs is an SEO tool through and through, Semrush is a more comprehensive digital marketing tool. It offers features beyond SEO, such as content creation, paid advertising, content marketing, and social media.

It has a more extensive database of keywords, competitors, and other SEO metrics. Semrush also offers a detailed overview of keyword and competitor research thanks to its database. The keyword research report offers more information.

Semrush gives you much more data as it’s a well-rounded tool covering both SEO and PPC. It has a larger database with more features than other SEO tools. It offers many apps and supporting tools for content creation, such as AI marketing, an AI social content generator, AdCreative.ai, etc.

Pricing: Semrush is more costly, with its plans starting from $129.95 per month and going up to the business model, which is customized depending on your needs.

RankMath

I’ve been using Rankmath and love it for making WordPress SEO a breeze. After SEO research, you absolutely need a WordPress SEO plugin that will ensure you hit all the right marks while publishing content. Rankmath takes care of everything.

What I love the most is the plugin’s ease of use and simple interface. Most of the features you need are available in the free plan, but I recommend you opt for the paid plan, which gives you additional features to ensure you’re doing everything right to get that #1 rank on search engines.

What Rankmath can do:

  • Connect with Google Search Console and Google Analytics for real-time information
  • Offer 20+ structured data/schema
  • Optimizes the website for local SEO
  • Optimizes for WooCommerce
  • Offers Image SEO
  • Builds Sitemap
  • Tracks ranks of your articles
  • Maintains position history

And much more.

Pricing: As I said, most of the features you need when starting are available in the free version. The paid plans start from $7.99 per month and go up to $59.99 per month.

Surfer SEO

SEO tools are somewhat costly for an average or beginner blogger. Each tool offers unique features, and you need different tools for writing and researching.

With Surfer SEO, it’s different. You get to research, plan, write, and see how to rank blog posts with this tool. When you select a keyword for your article, you will be given complete keyword research with the top related keywords, their search volume, and keyword difficulty. You get to compare with the competitors who have used and ranked for those keywords.

While writing the article, you get to analyze headings used in ranked articles, and you can add them to your blog outline. Surfer SEO offers to help you write the article and has a “Write With AI” feature. While creating the article, you can set the tone and get advanced options to customize your article further using the SERP results.

The best part? You get an SEO content score out of a hundred, which helps you understand where your article lies in terms of getting ranked. The plagiarism test is already available, so you don’t need to use another tool.

Finally, multiple integrations with tools like WordPress, Google Docs, Jasper, etc. exist, so you can add the blog post directly to WordPress.

Pricing: The Essential plan starts at $89 per month, which scales up to $219 monthly for the Scale AI plan. You can also customize a plan for your needs. There’s also a 7-day free trial available.

Google Keyword Planner

GKP is the best free keyword research tool next to Ahrefs and Semrush. If you don’t have the budget for these tools or don’t want to invest in paid tools right away, GKP is the right start.

It’s a tool marketers use for paid advertising on Google, so the data it stores is much more accurate and regularly updated. You can easily find and shortlist keywords for your entire content plan through GKP.

Since it’s free, it doesn’t offer every feature of a paid SEO tool like Ahrefs. But with the keyword difficulty and volume features and some additional free tools, you can create a sound keywords bank.

Key Features:

  • Accurate data on keyword volume and difficulty as GKP provides this data directly from Google’s search engine.
  • You can filter keyword suggestions based on location, language, search network, and date range.
  • The tool shows related keywords for your seed keyword and shares the keywords your competitors rank for simply through their URLs.
  • The tool provides historical statistics on search volume and competition for keywords, which can help analyze trends and seasonality.
  • It forecasts clicks, impressions, cost, and average cost-per-click (CPC) for selected keywords based on your specified location and budget.

Google Trends

SEO is a mix of evergreen content that brings consistent traffic to your blog and seasonal or trending content that gives a quick surge in traffic and huge benefits for relevant queries.

Google Trends is a free tool that helps you find trending topics for your blog. This tool comes in handy for niche blogs that are highly time-dependent, such as those covering news and current events, fashion and beauty, entertainment, and pop culture.

This tool shows you the trending topics in your niche and also helps predict future trends based on past patterns.

Key Features:

  • Search Term Analysis
  • Trending Searches
  • Regional Interest
  • Related Topics and Queries
  • Category Analysis
  • Data Export
  • News Headlines Integration
  • YouTube Integration

Marketers and SEO experts frequently utilize Screaming Frog SEO Spider, a well-liked website crawler and auditing tool.

It crawls websites and generates comprehensive analysis reports to help users find and address SEO problems with on-page optimization, broken links, redirects, and other difficulties. Its sophisticated filtering and exporting features make website performance analysis and SEO easier.

What Screaming Frog Checks When Auditing a Website:

  1. On-Page Optimization
  2. Technical SEO
  3. Content Analysis
  4. Site Architecture

Pricing: It has both a free and a paid version. The paid version costs $259 per year.

LinkStorm

Ideally, you should have four to five internal links per thousand words. If you write a 3000-word article, it’s almost fifteen internal links. Imagine you have to track as many internal links as possible when you publish at least two blog posts every week. It can get complicated soon.

Linkstorm is a tool for tracking and automating the addition of internal links to blog posts. The tool asks you to create a new project for a new blog post. It then crawls the post and generates a list of internal links with their respective anchor text.

It doesn’t automatically add the link unless you accept it. So, you eliminate tracking and scratching your head over which link to add.

Pricing: Three plans cost $30, $60, and $120.

Research tools

Sparktoro

Screenshot of Sparktoro

I love this tool because it saves me hours of surfing the web to find resources to quote in my articles.

Sparktoro is an audience research tool that shows what your audience looks for and the top creators and brands they follow for a keyword query. It also shows the related keywords for your target keyword so you can create a well-rounded article without making it fluffy.

However, my favorite feature of this tool is its channel suggestions. You get a list of YouTube channels, Reddit threads, and Podcasts most famous for your keyword. I love adding expert quotes to my content. While Qwoted and Help A B2B writer are good, I’m more inclined to take quotes from podcasts or interviews as they save time.

With Sparktoro, I can find those resources in minutes, which would have taken quite some time to surface on the web.

If you opt for the paid plan, you can get all audience demographic data, emails, and social contact data. Isn’t that a treat for researchers?

You can uncover audience behaviors and preferences by seeing the platforms they use to research a specific query.

When I have to suggest a social media platform to my clients to create a personal brand, I use Sparktoro to analyze where their target audience hangs out the most. It’s helped me guide my clients in the right direction without wasting precious time.

Pricing: The plans start at free, where you can use five searches per month. They scale up to a $50 per month personal plan and a $300 per month business plan.

G2 Rating: 4.5/5

Reddit

Though infamous for its too-loud crowd and bold opinions, Reddit works wonders in unearthing what your target audience thinks about their burning problems.

Discussion forums always add something extra, as people are extremely honest. If you Google your keyword followed by the word “Reddit,” Google shows you multiple active and top-rated subreddits on that topic.

Scroll through the questions people ask and the answers they provide. You can find quite a few additions to your blog posts.

Best for: Content writers, marketers, and brands that want to make their content highly relatable and match the search intent by using what the audience actually thinks.

Tweet Hunter

It’s my go-to tool for surfing Twitter, or X, as it’s called now. I always strive to add as much expert content to my blog posts as possible. It adds authenticity and elevates your blog to the ranks of experts in your field.

Twitter is a warehouse of many qualified people from all fields. You can extract many gems in the form of posts that can add value to your content. And ultimately, using social media posts in your blog is important.

But how do you find the post you need in the sea of content? With Tweet Hunter.

It’s a free Chrome extension that asks you to enter the keyword you want in any post. Then it shows all the posts that used that keyword from latest to oldest. You can see the one that fits your needs and add them to your content.

Pricing: Tweet Hunter has a 30-day refund policy and a free 7-day trial. Everything is included in the $49/month plans, with the exception of AI-writing, which is only available in the $99/month superior plan. Depending on the size of your following, you can get discounts.

Kleo

I’m a LinkedIn person. LinkedIn was the first social media tool I used for my business, and it’s still on my priority list.

The amount of content I get to use as expert quotes is impeccable. What Tweet Hunter is to X, Kleo is to LinkedIn.

It’s a step ahead of Tweet Hunter in its features. You can get the best-performing posts for a certain topic so you can replicate the style of that post for similar results. That’s the main purpose Jake developed this tool—to understand the anatomy of a viral or good-performing post.

But it also works as a research tool. The posts are sorted based on the most likes, comments, newest, oldest, or impressions received. You can also find all the best-performing posts from a single person if you open their profile and then use Kleo.

Kleo is also a formatting tool that lets you preview how your post will appear on laptops and mobile devices before posting it.

Pricing: The starter pack starts at $65 per month and goes up to $199 per month for the Pro pack. You also have a 7-day free trial and a 30-day refund policy.

Hosting tools

WordPress

WordPress is my go-to platform for blogging and content creation. It’s the top-rated and most commonly used Content Management System (CMS). Among other CMSs, what makes WordPress stand out is its excellence in:

  • Ease of use and a user-friendly interface.
  • Easy post-management that lets you create, edit, schedule, and categorize blog posts smoothly. You can also work with multiple authors and contributors.

Managing hosting accounts, setting up websites, and configuring various settings is absolutely easy, even for those with minimal technical expertise. Content Writing and Editing Tools

Grammarly

There won’t be any writer who doesn’t know this tool. Today, Grammarly can do most of the basic editing for you. From grammatical errors to making sentences sound better and fit the writing style, Grammarly saves much time. Since it does the copy editing, you can focus more on what matters—writing itself!

But remember that Grammarly is just a tool. It is not always going to be accurate. Before you accept all of Grammarly’s suggestions, ensure they’re right. Grammarly mostly does this with Oxford commas; it gets messed up often.

But apart from that, this tool is a savior. Recently, with AI, Grammarly can also write content for you for emails and does the basic plagiarism check. It’s a good and decent start when compared to other plagiarism tools.

Pricing: There’s a free plan and a business plan costing $25 per month

Hemingway Editor

  • Save

You must have heard that social and online writing needs to be easy. Write it as simply as possible so that even your eight-year-old nephew can understand it.

Being a writer (a creative writer first), I had the habit of writing long sentences with clauses. The goal was to make the sentences sound like they came from a novel.

That’s not the case with online writing. It needs to be crisp and short. With Hemingway Editor, you can control this issue. Named after the writer Ernest Hemingway for his simple writing style, Hemingway Editor is a free online tool that evaluates your content based on its ease of understanding. It is graded, with a lower grade denoting greater understanding.

For example, if the grade is 5, a fifth grader can easily understand your content. The optimal rating is grade 7. Keep your writing at grade 7, and you’ll be good for any kind of audience.

Again, note that not all readers are the same. Sometimes, when writing for an audience like stakeholders and C-suiters, the language should meet their reading standards. At such times, you must ignore some Hemingway editor suggestions and go above the grade 7 level.

Pricing: Free and paid plans. Now, Hemingway editor offers some pro features starting at $10 per month.

Coschedule Headline Analyzer

Your blog post title is the first impression you create on your readers. If you fail to attract them, they will never land on your blog. If you make it click-bait and fail to impress with your content, you will still lose.

That’s why you need a headline analysis tool that scores your title. It also lets you know”

  • Whether your title’s word count and character count are right.
  • Whether you have used some power words
  • The emotions you convey through the title
  • The keyword placement

You can also see how your blog title would appear on the search engines.

Pricing: The basic paid plan starts at $29 per month

Quillbot

Quillbot is one of the early tools in the paraphrasing world. When I first started using it, it offered limited features. But now it’s grown into a full-fledged AI writing assistance providing the following features:

  • Paraphrasing
  • Grammar checker
  • Plagiarism checker
  • AI detector
  • Summarizer
  • Citation generator

The paraphrase is pretty good as it gives you options to select your writing tone and paraphrase your content while maintaining your original writing style.

Another cool feature Quillbot introduced is the citation generator. With this feature, you can find resources like papers, books, etc. simply by providing the title, URL, or keywords you’re looking for.

Pricing: It offers a free plan and a pro plan that starts at $9.95 per month.

There are many plagiarism-checking tools in the market but I swear by Quetext. It finds matches down to the T. You get a plagiarism match even if a few words in a sentence match that of something already published.

With plagiarism, the tool also offers an AI checker and a grammar checker tool. Though you might not use Quetext for AI and grammar, you can’t ignore its plagiarism-checking prowess.

Pricing: Free and paid plans.

Wordtune

Wordtune can do many things, but to put it simply, it’s an AI-powered tool that assists writers in improving their copy. Wordtune does it all, including rewriting, rephrasing, editing, and changing the tone.

Use this tool not only for your blog posts but also for every aspect of writing, from emails to WhatsApp messages. The rewrite feature helps you enhance your copy, paraphrase quotes to avoid plagiarism, and improve sentences that just sound off.

People think writers can’t ever get it wrong. But believe me, even writers have their moments when what they wrote doesn’t just sound right. Wordtune is the perfect tool for such times.

But what I love about this tool is far better than the features I mentioned. Wordtune can summarize documents, YouTube videos, and Wikipedia pages. I rely heavily on such material to find quotable content; having a tool to summarize long texts and videos saves me so much effort.

You can either get its free Chrome extension, which works on Google Docs and emails or check out the paid plans.

Pricing: It offers a free plan and the paid plan starts at $13.99 per month.

Designing Tools

Canva

Blogging is incomplete without high-quality and original visuals. You must already know how impactful infographics and other visual elements are for gaining backlinks and social shares. Visuals also help convey a thousand words in one image.

However, creating visuals that attract and retain traffic isn’t as easy, especially when it comes to originality. Thanks to Canva, non-designers like me don’t have to suffer due to the lack of visuals in blogs.

I can write a two thousand-word article in a day, but I prefer to do something other than design. However, Canva never makes me feel like an amateur. Its ready-to-use templates, easy and quickly understandable interface, and ease of designing almost anything and everything have made Canva one of the top designing tools.

You might think Canva is only suitable for novices, but that’s not true. Many established and successful designers use Canva as their primary design tool.

Here are a few offerings from Canva that make it a one-of-a-kind designing tool:

  • A collection of over a hundred million images
  • A massive selection of free templates
  • Stock video collection
  • Editors like background remover, animation, special effects, and much more
  • Canva AI to convert text into images
  • Branding toolkits
  • Scheduler for social media

Email marketing is integral to any blogger’s journey. You need an email marketing tool as a medium for increasing traffic and building a dedicated community to whom you can promote your products and services.

More importantly, you need an email marketing tool that does most of the heavy lifting for you so you can spend more time on your blog.

ConvertKit is my favorite, and it’s been doing everything I need as a blogger efficiently.

Email automation, integrations, a simple and easy-to-understand interface, selling and promoting digital products, and a unique creator network—ConvertKit knows exactly what a blogger needs.

That’s because its creator, Nathan Barry, was a digital entrepreneur searching for a good digital marketing tool when he created one himself.

Pricing: It has a free plan till you reach the threshold of 10,000 subscribers. The paid plan starts at $25 per month.

Topmate

Bookings, one-on-one calls, discovery calls with leads, freebies, and digital products—there’s so much a solopreneur has to manage.

But, the main problem is managing everything from different platforms means remembering many things unnecessarily. Passwords, updates, the tons of emails every platform sends, multiple links to add on every social platform—you can imagine how cumbersome handling different tools at once is.

That was until Topmate. It’s a one-stop tool for bookings, displaying testimonials, offering paid products, and consulting. It’s an all-in-one tool for every solopreneur.

When you create your Topmate account, you can display your services, ranging from one-on-one calls to priority DMs, where you can charge someone to ask you a question through DM and sell digital products like e-books, courses, video recordings, etc.

Plus, you can add your bio and links to social media handles and websites. On top of that, the testimonials you get through your sales from the platform are shown on your page. In short, it’s a complete landing page that you don’t even have to design. It builds itself.

Some features I love are:

  • Reminders and messages are sent on your WhatsApp when a booking is made, or someone sends a priority DM.
  • Rating feature where you become a top 5% or top 1% creator depending on the bookings you get.
  • Your profile shows the rating and bookings, which serves as social proof.
  • Easy integration of the landing page on social media handles and websites.

Pricing: The basic plan has a 7% commission. The premium plan has a 10% commission.

Calendly

If you don’t need an all-around tool like Topmate but just a scheduling platform, Calendly is right for you. No online business owner is new to the constant back-and-forth of emails to schedule a single call; honestly, it reflects unprofessionalism.

Imagine you’re talking to a lead, and the conversion isn’t moving from “What time is convenient for you?” With Calendly, you can simply put the link in your message, and the lead can book a convenient time.

Calendly is a digital calendar where you display your availability for meetings. You can create different events for different kinds of meetings. For example, one event could be for one-on-one calls with leads and another with your sales team. Both events will be displayed on your profile, and visitors can choose any one event they want.

You can create landing pages and add testimonials, ratings, and product pricing. Gumroad allows you to create landing pages from scratch if you don’t have a website. AI tools

ChatGPT

Every blogger needs to invest in some AI tools. Since the advent of AI, many blogging activities have become easy. Researching blogs that would have taken me at least three hours earlier now only takes an hour.

Other blogging activities like finding blog posts that need updates, analysis of competitors and own content to find the missing elements, image creation, coding for website UX and design, and much more have become easier with ChatGPT.

The AI tool comes in two versions: the free GPT 3 model and the $20-per-month GPT 4 model. I recommend you use the paid version, as it offers custom GPTs, plugins, and web access, which the free plan doesn’t.

I’ve written a detailed guide on how ChatGPT is useful for bloggers. You can find it here

Pricing: Free plan for GPT3 and paid GPT4 plan for $20 per month.

G2 Rating: 4.7/5

Claude

Claude is similar to ChatGPT, so I won’t go into detail about it. However, what I found to be a big difference between the tools is their research and writing ability.

Claude is a better writing assistant with a better and more detailed prompt than ChatGPT. On the other hand, ChatGPT is better at research and gives answers that are closer to what you asked for.

Pricing: The Legacy model pricing starts from $2.4 and goes up to $24.

Perplexity AI

Perplexity is different from other AI tools because it’s a sort of search engine.

When you ask a query, it scouts the web to summarize all the relevant results in one go.

Screenshot of Perplexity AI
  • Save

It’s similar to Google but with Google you have to spend time click in and out of results to check if that’s what you’re looking for. Plus you get all the unnecessary ads.

Since, Perplexity summarizes the result to match your query, you save time and get just what you want.

On top of that, it’s like other AI tools where you can chat with it. So, if you aren’t satisfied with the result, you can ask Perplexity to give a better answer (something that doesn’t happen with Google).

Isn’t that cool?

Screenshot of Perplexity AI result

You also get the original sources at the top so you can check them if needed.

The results you get are extracted from the real content available throughout the web. It’s not something made up like ChatGPT or Claude.

That’s a huge plus as it adds authenticity to your research should you use AI for it.

Pricing: Free basic and pro plans for $20 per month.

Pricing: $30 for one-time use, $12.45, and $136.58 per month for the annual plans.
